For a long moment no one spoke. The silence that followed the old man’s disappearance seemed to thicken the all-encompassing darkness even further. At last, the tallest of the men spat on the ground.

“We didn’t come all this way to turn back now,” he said, his voice rough with grim determination. “We won't be outdone by that old drunk. We’ll descend one by one.”

The others nodded, though without much enthusiasm. Fear lurked in the corners of their minds, yet the promise of riches still held sway. They tied the rope to a nearby stalagmite, using every knot they had ever learned. This excessive manifestation of caution took them far longer than seemed reasonable, as if they were subconsciously delaying their own plans. Eventually, when there was no way to tie the rope any tighter, they realized the time had come to descend into the darkness. One after another, they slowly went down.

The climb felt like forever. The air was damp and cold, the echo of dripping water reverberated ominously off the stone walls. Each move seemed more and more difficult, their hands shaking, the palms all sweaty. Hard to tell whether it was from the humidity, exertion, or fear. Finally, they found their feet on solid ground. Exhausted but determined, they lit a torch.

To their great surprise, the old man’s body was nowhere to be found. They proceeded slowly, somewhat hesitantly, down a narrow corridor that soon began to widen to finally reach the edge of a vast cavern. The sight took their breath away. Before them, shrouded in darkness, were… ships. Wrecks. Ancient, rotting boats, sloops, skiffs, and sailing ships resting here underground for reasons beyond understanding. Masts broken, hulls decayed, yet many still seemed fairly untouched by the hand of time.

“How is this possible?” one of the adventurers whispered.

There was no reasonable answer to that. But they did not wait for long. The vision of wealth triumphed over caution, and they scrambled down the slope to board the largest of the ships. Inside—to their disbelief—they found chests overflowing with jewels and gold. Joy broke out instantly.

“Ha! I told you! It was worth it!” one of them shouted, scooping up gemstones by the handful.

They laughed kneeling among the treasures, tossing gold coins at one another. One of them, caught up in the rush of adrenaline, lifted an entire chest of precious stones as if it weighed nothing at all. But then… an eerie sound broke the silence. Plop… plop… ssssshhh… At first subtle, almost imperceptible, it quickly grew louder and louder. Heavy wet sounds echoed from deep within the cavern. The air thickened suddenly and filled with the stench of salt and decay.

“What the hell is that…?” one of the men choked out, clutching the torch, which now seemed to burn much dimmer.

Suddenly, the first tentacle shot out of the darkness, followed by others in a split second. Long, thick as tree trunks, slick with glistening slime, each lined with dozens of suction cups the size of a man’s palm. They slithered across shattered decks, coiling around broken masts, rotting beams, and tattered rigging.

And then they saw it—a sinister shape whose edges they could not make out in the gloom. A pair of pale blue eyes gleaming in the blackness. A series of terrifying bubbling breaths rumbled among the rocks. The creature was enormous. Older than any memory the human mind could hold. From the depths of some subterranean sea, brought here by ancient currents—or perhaps… by something else entirely.

“Run!” the tallest man screamed, flinging the jewels away.

They bolted, but the creature was faster. The first of the adventurers—still holding onto a chest of gold—was suddenly seized by a massive tentacle. Dragged upward, he screamed for several dreadful seconds, until the sound of snapping bones cut his cries short. Wet gurgling blood splattered everywhere, while his limp body vanished into the darkness. The second man ran with all his might, but another tentacle dropped down from above, crushing him against the ground like an irritating little fly unwelcome in the room.

And thus, after but few seconds, only one remained. Desperate and breathless, he arrived at the edge of an immense yawning abyss beyond the wrecks. Behind him—the rush of air, the bubbling, the crashing of tentacles against the stone. This was it–no more time.

He looked once more into the chasm before him. It was deep black, bottomless. But behind him, a horrible death was closing in. He hesitated for the briefest moment, took one last breath, and jumped.

The darkness swallowed him without a sound.

We'd like to remind you that the update "Depth of the Abyss" will be released on June 30th! Please note that the server save on that day will take longer than usual, up to a few hours, due to update-related changes and maintenance works.

You can read previous teasers here: Part I, Part II. In the meantime, we also invite you to read our article on how updates are made and what their main objectives are.

Dear Players,

It's been exactly 5 years now since the server launch! Since then, more than 75 thousand characters have manifested themselves in the world of Tibiantis through the soulvortex to join the battle for creation. (Nearly 12 thousand already passed away to the other world, commonly known as Deletera, but that is another story...)

We mentioned before that the traditional anniversary events would have to be postponed on account of the preparations for the new update. Nevertheless, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing this wonderful time with us as well as for all the support you've shown us. Without you, this project wouldn't be what it is, which is the best 7.4 server that has ever existed! If anyone still has any doubt about that, we encourage them to take a look at the newly added subpage and find out what, aside from our great community, makes Tibiantis unique.

As for the anniversary celebrations, we will definitely come back to this topic, so stay tuned!
